Great tips here. To us in the industry these might seem like no-brainers but unfortunately there are lots of companies out there pushing these as solutions to their clients. I recommend doing your homework when looking into a web development or SEO firm and make sure they are solid, recommended and can show examples of success. We are plagued by the reputations of the underhanded and fly-by-nighters. The burden of proof is always on us. Thanks for being one of the good guys!

Ncube – Honestly, the best SEO company consists of several factors:
1 – They can prove their results (not just added traffic, but relevant, quality traffic that turns to leads.. that’s what matters right?)
2 – Trustworthy – meaning they have clients that they work with and their clients are happy.. don’t trust your neighbor who says they do SEO — just because they have a couple websites of their own does not mean they would do well with your clients.
3 – Good personality – choose a team that has an open mind.. that is, search and social are always changing, very rapidly as you know.. so make sure the search engine optimization team that you choose is following the treads!

Can anyone advise of a good search engine optimisation company for me? there seems to be a mound of them, some people say use who shows up first in the search engines when you type in seo which kind of makes sense but I’m not sure. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I’ll check back regular for responses.

Everyone seems to agree that the keyword tag has no bearing on rankings in Google it’s of dubious value in others (having said that we still include them).
Also, have unique title tags for your pages.
